A life-coach partners with clients to provide guidance and support that enhances a person's perspective and work toward achieving personal goals. A coach empowers clients to recognize their own strengths, overcome obstacles, and improve their ability to move forward and achieve whatever it is they may want in life.
The first appointment is a 30 minute free call to discuss what the client is looking for in coaching and a coach. The coach will describe the services provided, gather information, discuss how the process works, and explain practical information. Most importantly the coach and client get to know each other and determine if they are a good fit.
During the initial 30 minute free call the client is encouraged explain their interest in coaching, discuss their goals, and ask many questions. As the client talks with the coach and asks questions, the coach will listen closely and openly ask and answer questions. By the end of the call both the client and coach will be able to determine if moving forward with coaching is beneficial.
Coaching is designed for clients who, for the most part, are mentally healthy. They choose coaching because they are motivated to look at new opportunities, an enriched life, or seek a more balanced life. Therapy is geared more toward helping people who are experiencing pain, unmanageable emotions, or mental health conditions. Coaching is not meant to replace therapy that a person may need. If you are unsure as to whether coaching or therapy is best for you, we can discuss that in our first session.
The simple answer is No... a coach does not tell you what to do. A coach listens and guides you in a manner that will help you clarify what you want, creates a structured setting to help you focus on strategies to get there, and supports you as you choose the actions to move forward.
At each session the the coach and client will review any actions from the week prior, the client will set the agenda (topic of focus) for the new session, and together the coach and client will clarify and explore the topic. The session will later focus on strategies to move toward the clients goal, identify specific actions to take, and determine ways to ensure the actions are carried out.
For the most part coaching sessions are held via phone. However, early in our sessions we may begin with video calling in order to get to know each other. This can be done through Skype, Face Time, or Google Hangouts.
Typically I work with adults and teens. I enjoy working with children in other contexts but in coaching I believe I'm most effective working with parents because they will have the greatest impact on their children. As children become teens they are more able to process a coach approach.
I work with parents on many topics in addition to parenting. Some parents are looking for personal or professional growth and we can easily focus on those topics in our sessions.
Coaching prices vary across the industry depending on the type of coaching involved... personal, career, executive etc. My sessions are $75 per session with approximately 3 to 4 sessions per month. I request an 8 session commitment from the start. After 8 sessions together we discuss progress and determine if we want to continue for the next sessions. This is an ongoing process throughout our partnership.
The simple answer here is... no. My coaching services are designed to enhance the lives of generally healthy people. Insurance companies only provide payment for specific illnesses or mental health conditions.
I require the payment of 8 sessions up front; however, if for some reason you are unable to finish some of the sessions I will give you a refund on the unused sessions. I do not give a refund on the sessions that were previously held. If you feel the need to end our sessions please talk to me about your concerns. Personal change takes time and we may be able to make changes that will benefit you the most long term.
